Northern Stoa and Shops of the Sanctuary of Asklepios at Epidaurus

Hellenistic stoa and shops

This commercial complex marked the northern edge of the sanctuary square. In the third century BC, shops and colonnades lined a long courtyard here. Some scholars associate these porticoes with the Stoa of Kotys mentioned by Pausanias. The foundations reveal how the sanctuary provided for the everyday needs of pilgrims.
