Historic square and memorial column
In First National Assembly Square in Nea Epidavros, historically known as Piada, a column topped by a phoenix commemorates the assembly that adopted the first constitution of revolutionary Greece. Architect Ernst Ziller designed the column, and marble sculptor Ioannis Chaldoupis carved it. It was unveiled on 23 May 1901. The memorial stands at the north-western end of the square, close to the Museum of the First National Assembly.
